用英文表達「吃虧」可以說lose out 或get the short end of the stick。stick指棍子，the short end指在拔河比賽中，輸家握住較短的一端，因此比喻處於劣勢，也就是吃虧的意思。其他類似的表達：be at a disadvantage「處於下風」（disadvantage指「劣勢」）、suffer losses「承受損失」。
例句：
- If the new tax plan passes, the middle class will lose out.
如果新稅法通過，吃虧的是中產階級。 - Our company got the short end of the stick in the deal.
